At Buy, Buy Baby, I became overwhelmed by the stroller selection. When I saw men test driving strollers up and down the aisles, I decided that this was a project my husband would want to wrap his mind around. He’s interested in anything that has wheels or an engine (his first word was car) so I knew he’d be perfect for the job.

With names like “Techno RT” and “Powerhouse Quattro I” and “Triumph 5″ I know that these strollers will be well-loved by the car-loving members of the family. After “test driving” several, we managed to find one we both liked. We went home, did more research and then thought about it for another few weeks.

Why was it so hard?

This “stroller event” as I call it is one of the reason I wanted to create this site. Other parents are such a great source of information about everything from teething to children’s music that won’t make your skin crawl.

When I first saw this stroller, I gasped. I thought it was super cool and beautiful. The first one I saw was orange — a highly unusual color for a stroller! Used by Madonna and shown on Sex and the City, this stroller is extremely popular. It’s simplistic design and unusual colors make it stand out among the sea of black and plaid strollers on the sidewalks and are appealing to the eye.

The height of the design allows your baby to be closer to your level (as opposed to sitting down at knee level) and that means your baby can see you and what’s going on in the world instead of only seeing people’s legs. Another neat feature is that you can switch your baby from rear facing to forward facing when you want. As children grow, they often want to face out and see the world. Rarely do strollers offer this kind of adaptability.

With other strollers, I’ve had to be careful where I go. The little wheels on one of my strollers would barely make it over rough ground that was full of tree roots and rocks. The large wheels of the Bugaboo Frog easily make it over rough areas and, in a pinch, can even make it over sand. While I had to get two strollers (a sturdy one for hiking and then another for plain ol’ walking), the Bugaboo can easily be used for both.

Although it’s on the pricey side, this stroller will last a long time. It can be used up to 44 lbs and/or about 4 years of age. When you think of how fast children outgrow clothes or toys, 4 years seems like a long time to use a baby product!
